Chapter 7
On a serene New Year's Day’s morning, Tom and Twinkles prepared to bid farewell to Dallas, Texas, their long-time home. They had made a agonizing decision to embark on a new adventure together, leaving behind the comfort of their old life to embrace the allure of the unknown.
Amidst their stroll through Dealey Plaza, Twinkles’ boundless curiosity couldn't resist exploring the historic site. She wandered around the Grassy Knoll, gazing up at the iconic Book Depository, noted the huge green X on Elm Steet where John got shot.
The human mind would immediately jump to triangulation to theory. Not this little girl. She was simply aware, had the gift of a curious, spotless mind.
Dog’s brains are seemingly focused on instinct. In fact they’re amazingly complex. With dramatic disruption looming in her environment, she seemed to celebrate the old and anticipate the new.
Next stop on the ‘civic tour’ leads them to the Cattle Drive exhibit, a poignant symbol of Texas' rich cowboy heritage. A powerful series of statues pays homage to the courage, perseverance required to achieve a better life. Thousands of Cowboys each led their 2,000 head of cattle 20-miles a day. Sometimes their total journey could be up to 1,000 miles.
Certainly the Cowboy experienced regret, questioned the decision. But he didn’t have an option, his livelihood depended on it.
Inspired, Tom spontaneously placed Twinkles in the saddle of the imposing cowboy statue, symbolizing their collective determination to guide their path into uncharted territory. The contrast between the monumental cowboy looking backwards and the petite Chihuahua looking forwards would serve as a touching, inspirational reminder of their imminent journey of redemption.
As Tom reached up to pull the tiny dog out of the saddle, he reflected, “Twinkles I just figured out that creativity begins when symbolism and juxtaposition start to simmer.”
